MMUST On The Spot For Canceling Fundraising And Candle Lighting For Slain Student

A week ago, a student from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology was killed in cold blood by unknown people in Kakamega when he was trying to rescue his friend. The fourth year engineering student since identified as Jonathan Telewa was murdered in Kakamega near the school environment. This has since been condemned by many Kenyans.

Through a Facebook page sharing campus news known as Nipashe Campus Flavour, it has since been revealed that Masinde Muliro University has cancelled two major events organized by students honor of the own fallen comrade Jonathan Telewa. As revealed, two days ago the university cancelled burial contribution of the student and today it has also cancelled another major event which was scheduled to happen tomorrow.

As revealed today, the Major University from Western Kenya has revealed that it has since cancelled the candle lighting session for the late fourth year engineering student that was to take place tomorrow at the school.

This has since received mass critisismas the candle session was to be a honor to the late and also to highlight the insecurity witnessed in the area and also in other universities. However, the university stood on its grounds that it was not safe for students to hold meetings as the ministry of health had earlier on advised. 

The issue of insecurity in the universities and other tertiary level of education is not new as it has been witnessed in the past whereby university students lost their properties while worse, others lost their lives.
